AIDA Unveils Details on New Ship Class

AIDA Cruises has announced a number of details for its next class of ships, the so-called Helios-class newbuilds, which will come in at 180,000 tons and 5,000 passengers, and be powered by LNG.

The first ship will be delivered from Meyer Werft in late 2018, and launch into service for a winter in the Canary Islands, according to the cruise line. The second LNG-powered AIDA ship will be delivered in 2021.

There will be 17 restaurants across, including the traditional German self-service options, a-la-carte restaurants and five specialty options .

Among the specialty options will be French Kiss, Casanova and the Brauhaus. AIDA promised new a-la-carte options and will also have five self-service options popular with German passengers.

Deck 16 will be an activity deck with a waterslide, water park, mini golf and a ropes course.
