September 08, 2017, will be sentencing day for the Mighty Weiner. The judge has option to sentence anywhere up to ten years. I would not be surprised if a sentence of 60 months (five years) is imposed. Weiner escaped all other charges in the agreement by pleading guilty to the lesser charge, and serving half of the maximum term, would be within reason.
The MSM has been reporting that Weiner will be required to register as a sex offender in (A) the community/locale/city where he will reside, and (B) the community/locale/city wherever he will work. The talk is that Weiner’s political career is over, and that he will be unemployable once released from federal prison after serving the term, or, if term is only probation. On both concerns, Weiner can, run for City Council and be electable because constituents supported Weiner since 2012 when the news broke, and that can, open the way for a run as NYC mayor. No telling what the political atmosphere will be in time to come.
A tearful former Rep. Anthony Weiner pleaded guilty Friday to sexting a minor, apologizing in court to the teenaged victim and blaming his own “destructive impulses” for the prison time that now awaits him.
The New York federal judge accepted Weiner’s admission to sending sexually explcit texts to a minor across state lines, and Weiner agreed to not appeal any sentence between 21 and 27 months in prison. He also must register as a sex offender.
“I have compulsively sought attention from women who contacted me on social media, and I engaged with many of them in both sexual and non-sexual conversation,” Weiner said in a prepared statement. “These destructive impulses brought great devastation to my family and friends, and destroyed my life’s dream of public service.
“I remained in denial even as the world around me fell apart,” he added.
